Restart fund 2025

Supporting LGBTQ+ community groups affected by unpaid Rainbow Fund grants

Earlier this year, Brighton & Hove Pride worked with local LGBTQ+ groups to understand the challenges caused by unpaid Brighton Rainbow Fund grants. In response, Pride facilitated £60,000 in one-off emergency funding through PCF to support organisations most at risk.

It has since become clear that the total amount owed by the Rainbow Fund is higher than first thought. While PCF is not able to assume or settle another organisation’s debts, we recognise that many community groups are still feeling the impact.

That’s why PCF has created a one-off Restart Fund – a pot of funding to help organisations who are struggling because of unpaid Rainbow Fund awards.

What this fund is for

This fund offers short-term relief, helping organisations:

  • Stabilise their operations.
  • Cover urgent costs such as rent, bills, or service delivery.
  • Bridge the gap caused by unpaid Rainbow Fund grants.

It’s important to note:

Receiving support from PCF does not replace or settle any grant originally owed by the Rainbow Fund.

Who can apply

To be eligible, your organisation must:

  1. Serve the LGBTQ+ community in Brighton & Hove or nearby areas.
  2. Charities, CICs, and not-for-profit community groups are all welcome.
  3. Have a clear link to the Rainbow Fund, such as:
    • An award letter, email, or message confirming a grant.
    • A budget or financial record showing that the funding was expected.
  4. Be in financial distress because that grant hasn’t been paid — for example:
    • Difficulty meeting core costs.
    • Reduction or suspension of services.
    • Risk of closure.

How much you can apply for

  • Grants are typically between £1,000 and £5,000
  • In some exeptional cases, we may consider granting higher amounts of funds.
  • The fund is one-off and won’t be repeated.
  • Every application will be reviewed carefully against the eligibility criteria.
